About Açık Radyo

Açık Radyo began broadcasting in Istanbul on 13 November 1995 as an independent collective radio station operating with a nonprofit spirit. Its original service reached metropolitan Istanbul by FM and listeners worldwide online, supported by a large community of volunteers and listeners.

The station described its format as a combination of news, music and personality. Talk programs explored ecology, public culture, science, literature, rights and social issues, while an unusually broad music schedule crossed jazz, classical, rock, folk, electronic, world music and many other traditions. Its broadcasting legacy now continues under the name Apaçık Radyo.
