About FM ABASHIRI
FM Abashiri is a community radio station originating from Japan, based in Abashiri, Hokkaido. It began broadcasting on December 1, 2009, founded by the Liaison Abashiri group to serve the local population and promote regional culture. Operating on 78.7 FM, it targets residents of the Okhotsk Subprefecture, reaching cities like Sapporo and Obihiro through online streaming. As one of Japan’s 335 community FM stations, licensed since the 1992 Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications policy, it reflects a grassroots effort to connect the area’s roughly 38,000 residents with music and information, broadcasting from studios in Abashiri’s Minami 6-jo district.
