Hochschulradio Aachen is the independent student radio station for the city's universities. On air since 2006, it broadcasts on 99.1 FM across Aachen and through its worldwide internet stream, giving students control of both editorial and technical production.

The programme covers campus politics, research, education, local culture and practical subjects affecting students. Its music policy deliberately looks beyond uniform mainstream playlists, with student editors and specialist presenters introducing alternative styles, new releases and personal selections. Participation also provides hands-on training in reporting, presenting and audio work.
