p>CKAC 730 AM operated as Montréal's first French-language radio station from 1922 until 2010, originally owned by La Presse before becoming part of Astral Media. Broadcasting with 50,000 watts daytime power from transmitter sites in Saint-Hyacinthe and Montréal's east end, CKAC pioneered 24-hour news radio in Canada during the 1960s. The station's studios at 1411 Rue Saint-Alexandre became synonymous with Québec's most influential news coverage and talk programming.
CKAC's legendary programming included "Le Réveil Rural" agricultural reports and became the radio home of Montréal Expos baseball for 36 seasons. The station launched the careers of iconic Québec broadcasters like Jacques Beauchamp and produced groundbreaking investigative journalism. Though CKAC ceased broadcasting in 2010 after 88 years, its legacy continues to influence Québec's francophone media landscape.
