It is owned and operated by the University Corporation at Monterey Bay, the nonprofit auxiliary of California State University, Monterey Bay, with studios on the CSUMB campus in Seaside. The station signed on in 1977 as a community outlet and shifted to a primarily NPR news service after CSUMB assumed operations in 2001.
